Just One Thing with Kelley “Kel” Hudson

Kelley “Kel” Hudson’s artwork “Green and Grey” defamiliarizes the suburban landscape by placing its relentless grid into sharp focus. Here she shares just one thing about the piece:

“I don't have a separate studio space, I work in my kitchen at my kitchen table that sits in front of a large picture window. I live in the upstairs half of a two-story home overlooking a sea of small, one-storied homes. The homes are all separated and detached both in their properties but also their lives. Every home has an identity of their own but also a cloud of loneliness and division looms. Public transit is not a thing. Street play is not a thing. Corner shops are not a thing. It is just a sea of green and grey. This is a consolidated version of my kitchen window view, reimagined. Now the trick is to guess, from this painting, where in the United States I live.”
