Black Girl Magic

A photograph with moody lighting. A young Black girl in a gauzy dress spins against a lush, blurred green background. Her face is turned from the camera. Her hair is captured mid-bounce, locks buoyant, a few curls in sharp focus.

“Black Girl Magic” by Damien Jackson.
Digital photography, 2017.

Damien Jackson (@damien.jackson06) tells the stories of Black and Brown people in America and worldwide. Born in Gibraltar to parents from St. Vincent and the Grenadines but raised in a West Indian neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY, Damien brings a global conscience to his photography. As an adult, his first camera was a gift from his father to capture important moments in his grandchildren’s lives. As a result, portraits of youth and families are among Damien’s most featured subjects. Damien’s work infuses deep respect for culture and history while uplifting the spirit of those he photographs.
